Hayley Lewis - globe trotter supreme
Hayley Lewis is a blogger, writer and digital producer and a few years back she left London to start a new life down under. An avid lover of travel, she now dedicates her time to exploring new destinations and sharing them on her excellent travel blog - if you haven't checked it out, do. It's enough to give anyone serious holiday envy! I caught up with Hayley to find out her favourite destinations, and how life in Australia is treating her so far...
Hi Hayley! For anyone that doesn’t know you, tell us a little bit about what you do for work...
Hi! I do lots of things! I write the blog alovelyplanet.com, and also freelance as a travel writer. As well as this I work as a digital producer.
Sounds like you're a busy lady! How did you get started blogging?
I got started as a blogger a few years ago. I’ve always loved travelling, and I would often get emails from people asking for travel advice, so I started saving all the replies I’d written and decided to publish some of them on a blog. From there, the blog has grown and I’ve started writing for other publications including Metro.co.uk, Flight Centre and gapyear.com.
I must say, your blog gives me serious holiday envy! Where are your favourite places to visit and why?
It’s a hard question, as I love so many places for different reasons. But one of my favourite places is Zanzibar, I spent some time volunteering there a few years ago and I loved it. The people were so lovely, the beaches are incredible and it has such an interesting mix of cultures.
You moved from London to Sydney a few years back - other than the amazing weather, what made you take the leap to move to the other side of the world?
My sister was already living in Sydney, so that was a big attraction for me. And while I loved living in London, I wanted to experience living in another country, so decided to make the move!
What’s surprised you most about living in Oz?
The weather! It changes so much, and you really can have four seasons in a day. I tend to leave the house with sun cream, an umbrella and a jumper. You just never know!
Here at ThatSkinGuy we always like to find out what you use on your face...are there any products you can’t live without?
Sun cream! Especially living in Australia, it’s even more important to protect my skin from the sun. Most days I use Clinique Age Defence BB Cream SPF 30+, then when I’m heading to the beach I use Invisible Zinc Tinted Daywear SPF 30+. Something else I use all the time is Vaseline, it’s fixes everything!
Has your skincare regime changed since moving down under?
I would say I’m definitely more conscious of sun damage since living here. I also find that my skin is much drier here. I didn’t use to use moisturiser back in the UK, but now I do as my skin gets so dry from the sun and sea. I have also discovered a great Australian product range called Apelles that do amazing smelling body lotions and shampoo and conditioner, made from natural Aussie ingredients.
I'm off to Sydney in a few weeks so will definitely take a visit to Apelles! What’s your number 1 skincare tip?
Drink lots of water, especially after a night out!
Finally, if there was one piece of advice that you’d give to your 18-year-old self, what would that be?
I used to sunbathe a lot when I was younger, and I was very tanned. Now I’m much more aware of the damage that it can cause, so I would probably tell myself to put more cream on and stay in the shade!
Thanks Hayley! We can't wait to see where your travels take you next!
